About Us

Birchwood Court is a six-building, 444-family Cooperative located in Mineola, New York. These buildings are nestled in a garden-like atmosphere among trees, sitting areas, walking paths, and an outdoor patio with a gazebo. The landscaping is maintained by a professional landscaper year-round to ensure that the lawns and shrubs are manicured and cared for.

Located in the heart of Nassau County, the complex is situated on Roslyn Road and borders Old Country Road to the immediate south. It is conveniently located blocks from Roosevelt Field, as well as many fine shops and dining establishments. Birchwood is also an easy commute to Manhattan via the Long Island Railroad, which can be accessed from the Mineola Station, only two blocks away. For drivers, Birchwood is conveniently located near major Nassau County Highways, including the Meadowbrook Parkway, Long Island Expressway, and the Northern State Parkway. The Nassau County offices, NYU Langone Hospital – Long Island (formerly Winthrop Hospital), and the Courts are all within easy walking distance. Yet, despite these surroundings, we remain private and well hidden from the general public.

The safety of our residents is paramount. For this reason, the property is protected by gates and 24-hour security, using guards, state-of-the-art technologies, and video equipment. Additionally, each building is fitted with an intercom buzzer and cameras in the lobby, basement, and laundry room.

Birchwood History

The brick buildings were constructed in 1960 and converted to a Cooperative in 1981. Each building is five stories and consists of 74 apartments, comprised of studios, one-bedroom, Junior 4’s, and two-bedroom units. Some apartments have terraces. There are a variety of apartment layouts to suit the lifestyles of all. Each apartment boasts ample closet space and is wired for Cable TV. A tenant’s storage room (limited #) and bike room are also available in each building.

As part of our continuous commitment to excellence, we are currently installing brand new roofs on each of our six buildings. All public corridors are carpeted. Each building has a compactor room for trash disposal. Heat and hot water are provided by two high-end burners and boilers that are capable of operating on either oil or gas. On-site parking is available for residents, as well as a limited number of individual garages.

A fully trained Maintenance staff and porter crews are responsible for the upkeep of the grounds and public areas. They are supervised by an on-site Manager, who reports to the Board of Directors, an elected group of seven Shareholders who are charged with setting policies and decisions associated with the operation of a large Cooperative residence, both from the standpoint of finances and the quality of life of our residents.
